Forgeworld - it all started so well, with the early, large scale kits being of a very high quality, mirroring their 30mm counterparts from both Warhammer Fantasy Battle and the 40K range of wargaming.
Sadly that range of large scale kits has been discontinued, although I was lucky enough to paint and write about quite a few of them, and the articles will gradually be added here.
Although the cost of the kits were high for the time, they were worth the price tag in most cases, but now the kits have declined in casting quality a great deal. This coupled with the large casting plugs that need to be removed, the mould steps and mis-matches, well, to be honest you might spend almost as much time cleaning the castings up and replacing lost detail, as you will painting.
It's a real shame, because concept and design of the pieces looks superb. Whilst I don't wish to put people off from spending their hard earned cash on Forgeworld models, I do suggest that you really have to like the look of the finished piece on their website before attempting to make the kit yourself.
Games Workshop do seem to be converting the Forgeworld range into plastic kits, and whilst still commanding a serious amount of money, they are cheaper than the comparable Forgeworld kit, and I suspect there will be less work putting them together.
